The wish list for this lovely home included simplistic design, low maintenance, minimal terracing, retention of coulee views, a new shed, and a rose garden. Because of the amazing views offered here, I am always very resistant to placing sheds or other buildings against back property lines. We decided that a small shed would fit within the building envelope and could be finished to look like it was part of the home. A wide sweeping walkway curving around the shed negates the need for stairs and leaves the visitor with surprise views as they walk around the corner. Boulders and grasses with cold-hardy low plant material has been used around the perimeter, to effectively mimic the coulee beyond. The requested rose garden has center stage in a partially-raised bed directly in front of the patio. What a sweet fragrance to enjoy on a hot summers’ eve!
